"A subconjunctival haemorrhage is one cause of a red eye. It is caused by a small bleed behind the conjunctiva. It can look alarming, but it usually causes no symptoms and is usually harmless. The redness usually clears within two weeks."
That was what was stated in the handout that I was given when I went to NHS walk-in and my GP this past week. Yes, I am suffering from subconjunctival haemorrhage in my right eye. Now, half my right eye looks red where it should have been white. Both doctors told me that it's usually spontaneous and it's nothing to worry about...UNLESS...I get blurred vision and worsened bleeding. Other than that, it SHOULD be nothing to worry about. One even told me that I'm actually LUCKY, cos this shows how fragile our bodies are.
However, I still think that it is not at all possible not to worry and the whole episode doesn't spell "LUCKY" for me at all. Why?
Point 1: Nothing is spontaneous when there's bleeding, it's an indication that something is happening.
Point 2: It's MY eye.
Point 3: Can anyone feel lucky to wake up to one red eye for no reason at all?
Point 4: I hate the way they use "should" and "unless" cos it makes me feel even worse.
Point 5: Sometimes they say our body is strong, other times they say it's fragile. SO??!!?! Make up your minds. I would also prefer to learn about the fragility of my body in a less awful way.
Besides "lucky", I got another punch in the face by the same doctor. "I usually see this in older people." Yes, I get your drift. Maybe this is a way my body is telling me that I'm getting old as well.

Another thing about the handout, maybe they can give some extra information on subconjunctival haemorrhage. Maybe something like this:
Disadvantages:
- Weird stares
- Weird questions
- Unwanted attention
- No cam-whoring (at least 2 weeks)
- To avoid using contact lenses
- Increased usage of glasses and sunglasses
Patients would have to tolerate disadvantages stated above for about 10 to 14 days. May also decrease confidence levels while increasing paranoia levels in some individuals. However, it may aid in comedic relief to see the different reactions of people noticing the bleeding.
THIS, would make the handout slightly more interesting.
So, until my full recovery, I can't, won't and definitely shan't take any pictures that would reveal and forever commemorate my red right eye.
