Cheapskate Tuesday

Yea yea...so what do we do on Cheapskate Tuesdays?!?!

To the casino!!! For the free chinese buffet, free entertainment (albeit lousy karaoke singers), free drinks and sandwiches, and free mahjong! (That's why...I said it's cheapskate...)

This time, we got there a bit earlier, so we're kinda at the front of the queue, which is not a bad thing at all...until...this weird Pakistani fella (he claimed that he is a Pakistani...but I reckon that he's been here all his life...maybe even born here for all I know...), came and cut into the line, pretending to know that bunch of Chinese youngsters in front of us, and started a 'conversation' with them.

But that didn't last long. EVERYONE could see what he's up too, he just wants to get ahead of the line and get into the buffet without being at the end of the line. You think we're stupid meh...the group of youngsters must have done something right to get him off their backs, cos then he started bugging us...WTH!

It all started with him stepping on my foot and apologising and the whole conversation started (all on his own side) and continued for the next 15 minutes.

THAT 15 minutes was the longest 15 minutes of my day. Do you know why? Because he started blabbing about irrelevant topics and even started crying in the middle of it. (??!?!) What a weirdo! It's like he's going through this rollercoaster of emotions: laughing, preaching, crying, smiling...etc etc etc...

I personally think he's plain drunk...with still a pint of beer in his hands and the overpowering smell of beer when he talks.

And he even wanted to sit with us and talk some more. Puhleeze!!! *roll eyes* I'm not interested and please do go away. He claims that he's "a gentleman and can take rejection well from ladies" so it'd be OK for us to say no. Not surprisingly, he tried this reverse psychology tactic on us by saying something like not judging our friends. Yes, I normally don't judge my friends, but HE is definitely NOT my friend. (Hello...he just started blabbing out of nowhere and expects me to take him as my friend???!!?)

Anyway, managed to shake him off when the buffet started and so we had our meal in peace. But damn spoiler man...totally ruined the mood for mahjong already. After weighing out the chances on whether that weird uncle would come back and bug us or not, we sneaked downstairs for a few rounds of mahjong.

Slow start for the night, but then I had ONE really nice game. My very first "Qing Yi Se (a.k.a. Qing Yat Sek)"!!! All cards taken from other players (meaning higher points according to Muse). Yeah! Nice cards and one round of luck. HAHA!

Unbelievable!

Just finished watching Guess and was searching on YouTube for this particular clip.

"Qian Li Zhi Wai" originally by Jay Chou & Fei Yu Qing, but...with a twist.

Apparently, there was this girl in China who imitated the voices of 14 different singers, both male and female alike. And I have to say, she did a rather good job.

It's really amazing, you know, human potential is continuously increasing in so many different ways. I think people from the Guinness Book of Records wouldn't have to worry about nobody breaking and setting new records in the near future.

Back to the clip...so far I think this girl imitated the female singers very well, but not so for the males. You know, most of the time it's almost impossible for girls to sing at exactly the male voice range. Even if they can, it wouldn't actually be that similar to them also. But still...she's smashing! Hehe...

Watch and see...

So, what do you think?

Apam

Chinese Apam: Ban Jian Kueh

Yes, people...I made Ban Jian Kueh already! MUAHAHA!!!

But one thing, I didn't use the lye water so that's the only difference. (Probably better since the lye makes it taste a bit...a bit...er...a bit...sandy??!!?? You know, the weird aftertaste that you have when you take the yellow type of thick noodles that has too much lye in it.)

Anyway, just had the sudden craving for it and since I still have loads of peanuts at home, might as well just use it up as soon as possible. At the same time, Muse was also trying her Japanese cotton cheesecake again. So I had 2 different desserts after my miserable dinner. (Dinner: Plain porridge with braised peanuts)

The cheesecake turned out to be excellent, but my ban jian kueh was just so so, cos I put too much margarine I think...hmm...but it's the closest thing I can get right now. So...if I don't compare then it's ok lar!

Yeah...I do realise that the colour is not that even. Looks more like pancake. Can't blame me, the pan was distored. But come to think of it, it IS a kind of pancake also what... :P

Japanese cotton cheesecake with Japanese roasted tea, and my ban jian kueh in the far background. Hehe...

S.T.U.F.F.E.D.

Yes, I now announce that I'm officially stuffed for the day. With?

Give me an S!

Give me a U!

Give me another S!

Give me a H!

Give me an I!

SUSHI!!!

Yeap, because I was craving for it, and so Jesmine went out this morning to buy the stuff (when I was still asleep) and came back around noon (and I'm still asleep...) I was still groggy by the time I woke up, so we started making sushi only around 1 plus (after I've had my coffee) and done by around 3.30pm.

Not too bad, but I made a mistake of sitting there at the table for too long. Now, I'm so stuffed.

OMG...........still so stuffed....even after green tea...

(hehe...caught in the act!) :P

Terigu Pulut in BP

Bubur Terigu

Pulut Hitam

This brings back memories!~ Memories of home, of the food, of the people, of my grandparents, of our old house, of our old neighbours, etc etc etc...

*Read this*

This uncle has been selling terigu pulut (a kinda dessert, black glutinuous rice and wheat) since I was a small kid, and he's still moving around town with his stall on a bicycle, rain or shine.

Being the gluttony me, I used to bug mum and we would drive around town searching for him in all his possible haunts, Caltex in front of Summit, BP Garden, Jln Panchoran Air, or the area around the Big Market. (If I go back home now I'm still gonna bug my mum to do that, but I'm sure my parents will be very obliging for the first week or two...HAHA!)

My grandfather first got me "hooked" onto terigu pulut when I was like really young. I still remember how he would come fetch me after my kindergarten classes on his bicycle, and he would stop and chat with this uncle (now I know he's Mr Mahalingam) when he sees him. And as usual, I would have something to eat. :P

Talking about that, my grandparents and aunts always told me that whenever I follow my grandparents around (for goods delivery or payment), I somehow would get "free" food. There was also this "Mamak" (Indian Muslims) stall, previously situated next to Rex Cinema, which sells teh tarik, nasi kandar, nasi baryani, roti canai and the other typical mamak food. I can't remember a single thing but apparently, I used to ask for free roti canai whenever my grandfather brought me there. (That, apparently, gave him great embarassment, but he still likes to bring me out...HAHAHA) And the amazing thing is, the mamak workers, aunties and uncles alike, all apparently adored me! Before I actually came over to UK, my parents and I went to that stall shop (further down Jalan Rahmat now) for dinner and that old man said he still remembers me (though I highly doubt it, I think he recognised my parents or my grandfather instead).

Anyway, I still remember how frugal my grandmother was, she would buy a single bowl for 50 cents, and she would ask me to bring a BIG bowl to that uncle instead of using his. (comparison: Chinese rice bowl vs. Chinese soup bowl) So for 2 different flavours, we paid only 1 ringgit for that, and it was enough for the whole family. And this, is saying something, cos my maternal family is huge, with at least 5 aunts still staying with my grandparents at that time. And us kids since my grandparents were taking care of us while my parents were working.
(It also happened to be one of the last few things I bought for my grandmother when she was sick and can't really eat anything.)

Those were the days...

Even my aunts staying abroad all craved for terigu pulut. If they're back, they'd never miss terigu pulut out on their list of 'to-eat' things. Almost everyone I know likes it, actually, I seriously can't remember anyone who dislikes it, or it's just that I plainly don't know...hehe...

Sunday 20 May 2007

That's it??!!?

I can't believe that I'm done! You know, the mixture of emotions right now...it's like SooOoOooooO bloody confusing.

8 months just flew by like that...I just have the feeling that time is moving faster for me now.

NOooooOOOOooooOOOOoooOOOooOOOooOooOOoOo........ *fade out*

But then again, I've got plans lined up before my graduation. Hehe.

YEAP! I'm going travelling! YOOHOO~~!~!~! Europe, you know, almost the whole of West Europe! I'm SO SO SO SO SO SO SO excited! *jumping up and down*

OK...calming down, back to present...

As usual, when I'm free, I'll think of stuff to do, meaning: I cook / bake. So this time, I tried making soft pretzels (since I still got a big bag of bread flour left).

Looked OK, soft enough when it's freshly baked from the oven. (But it kinda hardens when it's left outside...maybe the weather stripped of all the moisture)

Pretzels in a group...

Pretzel alone...

A little bit of comparison...

...shows that I'm such a stereotype.

Die S***e, DIE!!!

ARGHGHGH~!!~!~~!!~!~~

Yet again, I can't finish my last question...FOREVER one ah~! *ISH...geramnya*

If only we didn't have to do 3 questions. My hand almost broke from all the writing scribbling, and the room was darn cold today (at least it was for me...). Imagine...when your hands need to move fast, but they just can't. So they move awkwardly instead.

Anyway, wanna put that away for now. I can decide whether to hate S***e or not after I get my final results.

I was SoOOOOOoOoOoOOoooo hungry throughout the exam that my stomach kept growling. But I had nothing else to eat besides instant noodles, and that there would be no water supply after 2pm today, so I wasted NO time at all.

CHIONG into the kitchen to cook the Korean noodles, with some spinach, celery, frozen prawns, and, maybe...an egg.

So I cracked an egg, and see what I got...

A TWIN EGG YOLK!!!

Aishey...If only I had a sausage to go with it earlier in the day: 100% for the paper (HAHA!)
*This part is just a figment of the author's imagination* :P

Dormancy

Going into a state of hibernation and dormancy from blogging and IM.

Need to study for exams. No updates till after that.

I am restless, unmotivated, and still nodding off with my book in front of me without realising it.

I am so the DEAD...

Happy Birthday to Muse!

Yeah~!~!~

9th of May, Muse's birthday. At first we planned to go for a surprise picnic but Samantha was busy with her work, and the rest of us are preoccupied with deadlines and exams. So the original plan fell through, but then, we still managed to spring a few surprises on her.

May 9th, 00.00 hrs
Knocked on her door and gave her a "mini" cake, with another separate candle almost as big as the cake. (Hehe...ran out of candles and didn't notice :P) Popped some champagne and chatted for a while. (We're supposed to make her think that that's all we're going to do)

May 9th, 19.30 hrs
Went to Sabatini, an Italian restaurant in Quayside, with cozy interior and humourous staff.

Couldn't resist cam-whoring in such a nice place, and Shirley couldn't let it go: she called me a pervert (??!??!???!)

Nice atmosphere, better service than CocoMos, and cheaper too~! The food seems to be more authentic than CocoMos', but hey, I'm not complaining. :P Just giving a review...hehe.

Btw, we brought the cake to Sabatini a day earlier, and they even cooperated with us by keeping a secret from Muse and surprise her with the cake after our dinner. Most of the waiters even came round to join us for the birthday song, and one even came out with, guess what, a tamborine!

Her presents: Topshop jacket & La Senza pyjamas (WooOOOOoOOooo~)

La Senza and remnants of the wrapping paper...

The candles that we got for her cake were these little pigs, so cute right??!

AwWWwwWwwww~~~

Birthday Cake from CC

I can’t possibly bring back to Malaysia the Millie’s Giant Cookie because:

  1. It won't last that long.

  2. I don't even know when I will be going back.

  3. Who would still eat it after (at least) 4 months?

So, CC “bought” me a cake, very much like the cookie, and “delivered” it to me over MSN.

Then, he asked me to “cut the cake”…

…with this…

I replied, “cuts the cake with the knife”, but that wasn’t enough. He wanted to see it cut.
OKAY… (for narration purposes, I used black color to draw instead)

He still managed to find something to pick on. Apparently, he wanted a small piece. So I gave him a really small one…

Then I “gave” the other half to Grace.

I “took” the rest. HAHA~!

But I think that fella is trying to make life difficult for me, because he wanted the part I already “gave” to Grace. Too late lah…I gave edi. Besides, he wanted a small piece. Does it actually make a difference then? I think not.

Still, thank you, CC! You are the ONLY person to have ever sent me an e-cake. And an ultrasound birthday song...

:P

Tuesday 1 May 2007

24 hours of MY day

I didn't really had the mood the celebrate it, and many people, including Grace, Sih Min and Winnie were like pushing me to do something instead of sleeping it off at home (pretending that I won't be another year older). On the contrary, I didn't get to sleep it off, since it was quite an eventful day.

April 29th, 23.00 hrs
CC called and wished me "Happy Birthday"...1 hour earlier. 'Cos he was going out, but then he was going back to sleep again. (??!!?!) Er...okay...

April 30th, 00.00 hrs
Samantha wasn't home but she bought a Chocolate Gateau cake for us to share (aww...) while Jesmine and Muse hid it from me until midnight. Muse lured me into the kitchen and I saw her, Jesmine and "The Cake" and my present sitting there. But their loud "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" gave me a fright and I backed 3 steps. HAHA!!!

So I blew off the candles, cut the cake, and we had a piece each. (OK, so I had 2...)

They gave me a jacket too...*gasp*

Grace called me as well, and we crapped for a while. Had some tea, chit chat, and we went back to our rooms. Sih Min messaged me over MSN and we talked till like 3 am before going to bed. (It's 12 noon over in Melbourne, I think...)

April 30th, 10.30 hrs
My phone rang and I groped around for it (still in bed). Uncle Victor called and asked me to get up, since he got up at 6 that morning. I was like..."What?!?? It's TOO EARLY for me to get up". (For a moment, I thought it was my dad waking me up all over again.) Then he suggested dinner at CocoMos, so I said OK. I lazed around in bed for another hour before dragging myself out of it reluctantly. Got some "e-angpow" from my parents, and some messages over friendster and e-mail. Went out to shop for some groceries and came back with loads of food. Chatted with Winnie, until she deserted me for "yum cha" sessions in KL. *sob*

Oh, I got a present from Richard too... :)

April 30th, 17.30 hrs
Got a message over MSN, asking me to open my door. No one was there, but a box, a package and a card were. It's MAGIC!!! :P I was still preoccupied with the card and package that I didn't see the word "Millie's Cookies" on the box.

I practically lost my head when I saw that. Hehe...one of my ultimate weaknesses.

And the mysterious package contained...

...a pair of horns and matching earrings. -_-" (that does NOT mean I'm horny...at all)

Emily insisted that I should wear that for dinner, so I scrambled to my closet to get something that matches that. MUAHAHA.

But then, when we're supposed to go for dinner EVERYONE disappeared! Can u believe it? And the whole day, I can hardly reach anyone. Got no responses when I asked people to go for dinner. *sigh* Muse went offline for no reason, Jesmine was like MIA all of a sudden, I can't get to Samantha at all, and nobody could get a reply from Mona.
OK lor, thought it'd only be Victor, Joella, Emily and me. At least they're still there.

Wah, manatau~ When we got to CocoMos, EVERYONE WAS THERE!!! And I mean everyone. Jesmine, Muse, Samantha, Richard, Jae, DingYing, Mona, Joella, Emily, Victor and me (obviously...). Apparently, they all collaborated to avoid me the whole day and surprised me by being there altogether! Oh man...and I later learnt that they started planning for it since last week, I LOVE YOU GUYS! How did you all manage to keep it ALL from me?
Alvin called also to wish me well halfway through dinner. :)

Clockwise: Me, Victor, Emily & Joella (after an eventful surprise).

Us girls from 313: (Clockwise) Jesmine, Samantha, Muse and I.
(sounds like some kinda organisation...hehe)

From left: Jae, Ding Ying (happened to be here on my birthday...from France!), me & Mona.

From left: Jesmine, me, Richard & Samantha...with some amazing "ladder" formation. :P

We had a nice Italian dinner and went drinking in Long Bar after that. (there's supposed to be a happy hour night, but didn't really get cheap drinks) Then we bar-hopped to City Vaults (the drinks are much cheaper) and stayed there till like around 1 am. If only we weren't tired/sick/had classes, we would have stayed much longer. Maybe for a 3rd round also. When I got back, saw another birthday message from RueyJiun, but I missed her 'cos she went offline already. (Thanks, oh~!)

But then again, thanks guys!~ Really nice surprise! Will post some more when I get more pictures!
